Highly addictive, and packed with feel-good energy with a tropical twist, Light Up sees two of the hottest names in the Pacific joining forces.
In keeping with his chart-topping secret to success, Jawsh685 produced the beat for Light Up at home in his bedroom. He then sent the beat to the multi-faceted Sean Rii, who brought his distinctive vocals and unique flair for blending reggae, dancehall, afro-beat, R&B and pop, to the party. Grammy Award-nominated Rory Noble (Kanye West, Burna Boy, DJ Mustard) was on co-production duties.
Jawsh685 came to the attention of the world when he released the smash hit Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat) with American R&B star Jason Derulo. The pair reunited again on the recently released Make Me Happy, which clocked millions of streams within a few short weeks and hit the top 20 on the Aotearoa Charts.
Now with the southern hemisphere summer just around the corner, Jawsh says it’s the perfect time to drop Light Up: “It reflects the positivity I’m looking to spread. Joy and just hella good vibes! Whether it’s with family, friends out cruising or at home; heck even in the clubs. I just wanted to make something really bouncy; island vibes everyone can click with!” he says.
Jawsh adds that it was an honour to work with Sean Rii, who many will also know as the lead singer from the band Dezine, which is hugely popular across the Pacific.
“What a dream to work with someone like Sean. I loved listening to him as a teenager.”
Fans can expect more from Jawsh685 in the coming months. “Most definitely! You’ll hear and see more of this vibe, especially with artists I grew up with and loved listening to.”
