New Zealand music funding agency NZ On Air have been giving themselves a well-deserved pat on the back of late, celebrating yet another funding milestone and some impressive new airplay statistics.
NZ On Air recently funded their 1000th music video since they first began funding videos in 1991, and their next funding round will crack 100 new recording artists funded under the Phase Four initiatives, which began in July 2000 with an NZ On Air budget increase as part of the government's Cultural Recovery Package.
NZ On Air are pointing at recent airplay statistics as proof that their funding schemes are working - overall New Zealand music content on commercial radio is up to 14.7%, up from 1.9% just seven years ago and well on the way to meeting radio industry quota targets of 20% by 2007.
Leading the way are stations like Channel Z, who are now consistently playing over 30% New Zealand music, National Radio and the b.net.
