The combined knowledge of Malcolm Haynes, Ben Mendelson and Dubi Lenz is an unquestioned industry tour de force and delegates will get the opportunity to rack their brains at Sounds of Aotearoa, as the latest confirmation in an exceptional line-up.
Malcolm Haynes has been in the industry for over 30 years, and currently heads up the phenomenal Dance Village at Glastonbury, which across its seven venues has housed artists such as Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Castles and Klaxons. In 2010 he added the co-ordination of the Uptown Area ¨C which includes five venues, a fun fair, and various food and non-food stalls - of The Big Chill Festival to his impressive roster, cementing his reputation as an industry heavy-hitter.
Not only has Ben Mendelson been charged with launching the 'World Music' genre as a whole, but he has forged a career producing the most celebrated artists in it both for the label - Globestyle - he launched and for the myriad of international labels who seek out his services. These skills culminated in WOMEX, which Mendelson founded in 1994. The biggest and most prestigious trade show in the world, WOMEX 2010 housed 2, 440 delegates from 94 countries, 59 showcase acts on six stages and over 20 conference sessions and films screenings.
As artistic director of the Red Sea Jazz Festival, Dubi Lenz brings an in-depth comprehension of worldwide music with management skills, teaching qualifications and the ability to form and promote cultural liaison. He is a university lecturer, a world music radio show host, press and TV journalist and tourist guide for music enthusiasts going to South America, West Africa and the Caribbean. Dubi was chairman of the Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals in Europe (EFWMF) for 2003 , 2004; member of the music department of the Israeli ministry of culture and recipient of the Chevalier (Knight) Medallion of the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government. Dubi Lenz has been confirmed courtesy of the Israeli Embassy.
Lenz, Mendelson and Malcolm Haynes head up an already stellar list of presenters, including Don Letts (charged with marrying punk and reggae in the 1970¡¯s), Peter Noble (Director of Bluesfest, promoter and director of AIM Records), Toby Mills from the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall (UK), Sam Cook from The Dreaming Festival (Australia) and Micki Sellton from Reggaetown Festival(Australia) and record label owner Scott Schorr (Lazy Bones Recordings, U.S.). Adding to the local industry insiders Peter Baker, director of NZ's largest independent distributor, Rhythmethod, rounds out this unprecedented cast of experts: Nicole Duckworth (Fat Freddy's Drop, The Drop), Moana Maniapoto (Moana & The Tribe, Black Pearl) and Vicki Gordon (VGM Media, Australia).
As if one needed more reason to attend, Electric Wire Hustle have been confirmed for the already-blistering Sounds Aotearoa showcase evenings! The Wellington genre-hopping troubadours have been praised for a live performance that marries funk, soul and hip hop into immeasurable amounts of fun, and they will be heading up two nights of explosive New Zealand talent. From the skanking prowess of Northland Reggae band 1814, to the soul-inflected sexiness of Wellington duo Bebe Deluxe, to Batucada Sound Machines' Pacific-influenced Brazilian bop, Taranaki is going to be overwhelmed by two packed nights of effecting international jams.

WEDNESDAY 16TH MARCH - THEATRE ROYAL, NEW PLYMOUTH
PERFORMANCES START AT 6.15PM
6.15 PM - MOANA & THE TRIBE - one of the mostdistinctive, articulate and significant Maori voices is multi-award winning Moana Maniapoto who - first with Moana and the Moahunters and latterly as Moana & the Tribe - has taken her often politically conscious music to festivals across the world.
7.15 PM - VICTORIA GIRLING-BUTCHER - LUPIN, the new musical project from Victoria Girling Butcher, after ten years with Lucid 3 Victoria Girling Butcher decided it was time to work on some solo material, Lupin is the result.
8.15PM BEBE DELUXE - this Wellington duo fronted by captivating songstress Kirsten Te Rito and keys extraordinaire Mr Illingworth, has been quietly been simmering away for almost two-years now. Their infectious sing-a-long melodies are sprinkled with obvious soul/R & B ingredients and just the right amount of pop for good measure.
9.15 PM - BATUCADA SOUND MACHINE - Brazilian, Cuban and Afro-beat rhythms, with touches of hip-hop, carefully, crafted percussion, slick horns and soulful vocals.

7.00PM MALCOLM LAKATANI - (PACIFIC MUSIC AWARDS TRUST SELECTION) The fusing of different genres and even languages has consistently proved to be a winning formula for exciting new music, and this NZ born Niuean musician. When he is not busy working on the production of first album, Malcolm also enjoys being lead guitarist for Che Fu and the Krates, Allegro and the Aggressors.
8.00 PM PACIFIC CURLS - with its world ribbed sounds, precise arrangements and a catalogue of songs that link the Pacific's primal myths to Scotland's mysticism, Pacific Curls - Kim Halliday (Rotuman/NZ/Scottish), Sarah Beattie (Scottish) and Ora Barlow (Te Whananu'a'Apanui) - make music that is both worldly and enthralling.
9.00PM ELECTRIC WIRE HUSTLE - genre
10.00PM 1814 -up beat, funky, R'n'B, roots reggae, full of energy, up-beat grooves, wicked sax and sweet soulful vocals.
