The Valve bar, a steadfast supporter of underground live music in Wellington, has been closed down for a period of two weeks from February 12. The Liquor Licensing Authority has suspended Valve's on-license for this period, and the manager's certificate for four weeks from the same date.
The Dominion Post reports that "The main breaches were allowing intoxicated people to remain on the premises, having people on the premises outside licensing hours and selling or supplying liquor outside licensing hours."
The Dominion Post then quotes Valve director Greg Nusinovitsch, who is described as 'disappointed', "We feel that we got dealt to harshly, due to a new licensing sergeant in the Wellington region making an example of us, and there is no doubt the alternative underground is always repressed by authority.
"The Valve Bar would like to express its regret to all the patrons and the music world that will suffer from the closure."
The closure means the cancellation of the We Dunno/Minimals/Dirk Drent/Deadline show scheduled for Valve on February 14th, although Minimals singer Jord Hutchison reports that an alternative venue is desperately being sought.
