For the first time ever, commercial radio has topped the $200 million mark in revenue during a calendar year.
Figures collected by the Radio Broadcasting Association show that New Zealand commercial operators made a combined $205 million in 2002 - up by 4.6 per cent on 2001 to beat the previous best of $196 million.
"It was a year that had its ups and downs," says RBA Executive Director David Innes, "but mid-winter and a strong final quarter created the record."
"We believe that the flexibility, fast response and opportunities for segementation provided by radio have been major contributors to this record result."
