Launchpad is a joint initiative between Space and Coke designed to help launch a New Zealand band. The winning artist or band will receive a video made for them, a guest live appearance on Space, help with publicity and promotion and a feature article in Rip It Up magazine.
The winner will be picked by public vote on the Space website http://www.spacenz.com
The three finalists are as follows.
- Baitercell vs Timmy Schumacher - 'Lay It Down'
Baitercell and DJ Timmy Schumacher combine forces as a formidable DJ and producer team mixing hard hitting break beats with a heavy rock, techno and hip hop influences. Baitercell is the guy who mixes down P Money's albums and their bass bin rupturing tunes have left dance floors annihilated at Big Day Out (Boiler Room), Alpine Unity (NY's countdown set) and the bFM Summer Series. They were recently sitting at #4 on the nationwide alt charts and hit their 2nd week at #1 on Auckland radio station bFM.
- Kora - 'Politician'
Originally hailing from Whakatane, four musical brothers from the Kora family plus one un-related member. They began playing together as a band in the early 1990s under the name Auntie Beatrice, winning the national Rockquest high school band competition in 1991 and the East Coast region Battle Of The Bands three years running. Expect to hear more Kora on LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa with a sound that's already been described as a fusion of Trinity Roots and Che Fu.
- Emcee Lucia - 'All This Time'
Emcee Lucia has been doing her thing since '93. She has been winning awards, competitions and touring with everyone. But she has now only just started her recording career.
