Bic Runga has started her own record label, Nu Shu Records.
In fact, the Tui winning Best Producer has already been busy recording a debut EP for Melbourne-ite Tim Guy and plans to release it on the new label once she finds a distributor.
However, she didn't 'discover' Tim, she tells Australia's 'Undercover News'. "He discovered me. He came to my sound-check and gave me a demo.
"A good part of my album budget was used on the studio so I can use that for the next few albums and for other people. I've been lending my gear out to everyone in this town. As long as it comes back in one piece it doesn't bother me."
Although producing is her current love, saying she gained a lot of confidence to keep learning that corner of the industry since winning the Tui, performing will continue to be the priority.
Manager Campbell Smith assures us Bic is not forgoing her performing in favour of the 'biz'.
"It's an avenue for Bic to record things she likes, when she likes. She isn't rushing into the recording business!" She is, however, about to embark on a tour of Australia.
