It’s one for now, its one for the future and its one from the Future Festival in Australia!
It’s a bloody big one - it’s the arena party of the summer!!
DIZZEE RASCAL, AZEALIA BANKS, HARDWELL, MADEON, DIMITRI VEGAS & LIKE MIKE, A-TRAK.
MORE THAN just a gig, it’s a full-on seamless night of major international performing artists and DJs, with the audience as active participants. Vector will transmogrify into a melt-down fusion of European superclub, mini indoor festival, big stage full set live show and dance floor rave through the night.
Extra sound and lights will be added in the middle of the arena floor, as well as around the stage, for a surround-sound sensory experience. The venue format will be free-flow – all tickets giving access to all parts of the venue including floor, seats and outer areas. Different spaces will be created and a bar will be installed in the main room. Back To The Future will kick off at 8pm and go through until 1.30am.
In a word then, it will be - Bonkers!
Welcome Dizzee Rascal, welcome one and all, come Back To The Future with us.
DIZZEE RASCAL
Need we say more, the superstar of the scene and showman supreme.
The English MC, songwriter, producer and Mercury Prize winner became a house-hold name when his ‘Tongue n Cheek’ record spawned no less than four #1 hits in the UK including the multi platinum party-time smash ‘Bonkers’. Dizzee has more recently had massive collaborations with Florence and the Machine on ‘You've Got The Dirtee Love’ and with DJ Fresh on ‘The Power’. A 2012 highlight for the Rascal was performing as part of the London Olympic Games opening ceremony, and recording a song, ‘Scream’ as one of the five tracks to officially soundtrack London 2012. Going Back – to Auckland 2010 where Dizzee provided one of the greatest ever legendary Big Day Out moments when ‘Bonkers’ caused the whole stadium to lift off and go “stark raving mad”, “absolutely nuts” (stuff.co.nz). To The Future - 2013 will see a new album from Dizzee Rascal….but first it’s Back To The Future – Friday March 1st at Vector.
AZEALIA BANKS
Azealia Banks is a 21-year-old artist from Harlem who has – as Billboard described – “shaken up the blogosphere like a snowglobe.” Her simple black and white video for ‘212 (featuring Lazy Jay)’ racked up nearly 34 million views since posting in late 2011, and placed her at the top of NME’s “Cool List” for the year and onto front covers world-wide. The way she fuses street sensibility with musical sophistication is pure alchemy, and reflects years of classical training – from off Broadway productions as a child to her studies at New York’s renowned La Guardia High School Of Performing Arts.
This will be Azealia’s first ever show in New Zealand and as one of the world’s most exciting and talked about new artists it should be an absolute belter. With a string of singles, tracks and video clips that have been musically acclaimed whilst also causing a stir due to the profanity and explicit nature of some of the material Azealia Banks is not to be missed. This is a first performance we’ve been waiting for from an artist whose debut album (due very soon) and oeuvre is about as interesting, challenging, vibrant and potentially explosive as anything else out there today. Highly anticipated doesn’t even get close! Musical gunpowder does!!
HARDWELL
Award winning DJ, producer, label manager, #6 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ List and an electronic dance music artist to set 2013 alight. Hardwell’s bootleg of ‘Show Me Love Vs. Be’ was a down right TUNE of 2009 - one of the biggest and most played dance hits of that year. In fact, we still get goose bumps at the thought of hearing it to an arena of diehard fans. This track alone blasted Robbert Van De Corput front and centre - quickly becoming one of the leaders of the new generation of DJs with his trademark “Big Room House” sets and production sounds. Hardwell now tours and performs at the biggest events and clubs around the world. His exceptional technical skills, variety of music, distinguished looks and that added personal touch make him stand out. Behind the decks Hardwell never fails to deliver.
MADEON
This French-Progressive-House Producer has it going on. And more. Since becoming the winner of Pendulum’s remix contest for their track ‘The Island’ (2012) Madeon (Hugo Pierre Leclercq) has rapidly become a household name. So much so the youngster caught the attention of Deadmau5 and was asked to do a remix of Deadmau5’s track, ‘Raise Your Weapon’ for a special remix package that was released by Ultra Music! Invites rolled in to play Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Creamfields, Wireless UK, Rockness, Lovebox, Summer Sonic AND Electric Daisy Carnival in New York, all at the age of 18!
Citing The Beatles and Daft Punk as his greatest musical influences, Leclercq’s debut single ‘Icarus’ was a hit with both DJs (charting at #2 on the global Beatport chart) and radio (charting in the UK top 40). Madeon's ‘Pop Culture’ live mashup video has been viewed over 10 million times. He is listed at number 54 on DJ Mag's Top 100 list in 2012, and is currently working as a producer with Lady Gaga on her new album.
DIMITRI VEGAS & LIKE MIKE
Belgian brothers Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike have come a very long way in a very short period of time. In just 2 years, they’ve bypassed the usual steps to making it big by proving they have super-star quality in everything they do. They are sought after producers, remixers to the A-list elite and number 1 hit makers. The accolades they’ve clocked up so far are equal to those some DJ stalwarts amass during a lifetime!
Dimitri and Mike have worked with the hottest names in the industry, everyone from Billboard royalty Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull (Papi), MTV favourites LMFAO (Champagne Showers), the infamous Swedish House Mafia (Leave The World Behind), Tiesto, Snoop Dogg and more.
The pair have set international dance charts and radio stations on fire, and fans around the world are witnessing for themselves the exhilarating performance that has seen the brotherly duo become one of the hottest new dance tickets in 2012.
A-TRAK
DJ, turntablist, owner of record label Fools Gold and streetwear cultural icon - just some of the many hats that that the super-talented Canadian born A-Trak wears.
Pretty much unrivalled in the DJ skills department A-Trak was the first DJ to win all three major DJ competition titles (DMC, ITF and Vestax) and the first (and youngest) to win five World Championships starting in 1997 at the age of 15. An electro-house hip-hop flecked live act not to messed with A-Trak brings a culture and presence rare and formidable in today’s landscape. His pedigree includes stints as Kanye West’s personal tour DJ including appearances at huge international TV Awards and worldwide stadium shows, and more recently with Swedish House Mafia.
With production credits and remixes for the likes of Kid Sister, Lupe Fiasco, MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize and Kid Cudi, not to mention being one half of Duck Sauce with the almighty Armand Van Helden - no pun intended, everything he touches turns to gold! One of his most recent, and of particular local interest, was his collaboration with our very own Kimbra and Mark Foster on ‘Warrior’ a song for Converse’s 3 Artists, 1 Song campaign that found its way out radio speakers around the world.
