Music News - theaudience.co.nz announces Louis Baker as Recording Prize winner

theaudience.co.nz announces Louis Baker as Recording Prize winner

01 February 2013 - 0 Comments

Louis Baker could be described as one of NZ music’s up and coming talents with a very successful 2012 behind him. It also looks like 2013 will be no exception, beginning with the success of a #1 placing on music discovery website theaudience.co.nz.

Working tirelessly to forge a path for himself in the music industry, last year saw Louis supporting local legends Fat Freddy’s Drop, playing Rhythm and Alps, Rhythm and Vines and La De Da. He was also selected to attend The Red Bull Music Academy, described as “a platform for those who make a difference in today’s musical landscape.”

The young Wellington-based musician with the warm, soulful voice, has also spent time in the studio working on his own material. Posting ‘Even In The Darkness’ on theaudience.co.nz near the start of January, it was a slow but steady climb to the top and just the beginning of what is set to be another great year for Louis Baker.

“I want to thank each and every one of you [that voted] from the bottom of my heart, this outcome would not have been possible without your amazing support” Louis’s first response to word of his win. “I see this video and recording as a vehicle to create more of a positive vibration in the world, and to me it feels like this is a shared, collective victory for both myself and the fans.”

This success sees him secure the first ever theaudience Recording Prize, which will entitle him to a full day of recording in the legendary Brick Room at Roundhead Studios, mastering from Chris Chetland at Kog Studio and a performance video directed by multi-award winning photographer and video director Mat Baker.

Louis is the inaugural winner of theaudience Recording Prize, finishing in the #1 position at the end of the December / January Wildcard Chart on 31 January. His song ‘Even In The Darkness’ was the most popular unreleased track on the Wildcard Chart for the combined months of December and January on theaudience.co.nz, and you can listen to his winning track here.

Announcing the #1 track also marks the beginning of a new chart month on theaudience.co.nz, with the NZ On Air Making Tracks Wildcard funding resuming. Who will be in the running for February? Head to theaudience.co.nz to discover new music and have your say.
