Louie Knuxx is a hip hop artist hailing from New Plymouth, New Zealand, and the first NZ On Air Wildcard Making Tracks grant to be announced for 2013.
Uploading two tracks to theaudience.co.nz at the end of January, Knuxx was surprised to see ‘Aint Felt A Thing In Years’ rise to the top of the Wildcard Chart near the beginning of February.
“I am so delighted to finish first on theaudience [Wildcard] chart. The fact people cared enough to vote for my song is most gratifying and I think this is a great platform for artists who may go unrecognised by funding bodies, for whatever reason. I can't actually articulate how happy and grateful I am.”
Knuxx’s hopeful tales of hardship and heartbreak caught the interest of music lovers on the music discovery website.
“There’s heaps of aspects [of rap] I like to rap about and I delve into those, but I always try and keep everything truthful and honest,” Knuxx says of his music. “I’m a multi-faceted individual… as most people are.”
The success of ‘Aint Felt A Thing In Years’ on theaudience.co.nz sees Louis Knuxx secure NZ On Air Wildcard Making Tracks funding, which will go towards the recording of the single and video.
Louie Knuxx is now the seventh recipient of the NZ On Air Wild Card Making Tracks grant, finishing in the #1 position at the end of the February chart month, and you can listen to his winning track here.
Announcing the funding also marks the beginning of a new March chart month on theaudience.co.nz. Who will be the next to be discovered - head to theaudience.co.nz and have your say.
