Dedicated Kiwi music magazine New Zealand Musician celebrates 15th birthday with the latest (August/September 2003) issue, due out on Monday August 18th
Since its inception in 1988, New Zealand Musician magazine has seen a lot of changes to our musical landscape. Commercial radio now plays Kiwi music for starters!
Remember 1991? The December issue that year featured the unlikely pairing of Mikey Havoc (Push Push) and Dave Parker. The why was that they were the only two local acts to top the national singles charts in that year. This month four of our own were in the national album chart Top 5.
NZ Musician has been an important part of the developing infrastructure which has led to this newfound success. Published bi-monthly the magazine features local artist profiles, musical equipment reviews, education and industry information. Against all odds it has remained free, distributed nationwide primarily through musical equipment outlets.
NZ Musician magazine has championed Supergroove, the Fuemana brothers, Flying Nun, Darcy Clay, Bic Runga, Blindspott and Nesian Mystik ? 90 cover stars and ten times that number of Kiwi artists featured in 15 years. It has played an important part in developing the public profile of innumerable local acts.
The August/September 2003 issue (with Melbourne-based Fur Patrol on the cover) celebrates NZ Musician‚s 15th birthday. There are 64 pages of information about New Zealand music and 15 great prizes to be won by readers. In addition an eight page Music Industry Training Course supplement details the tertiary courses available throughout the country in 2004.
