Video isn’t quite killing the radio stars… just giving them a shot at TV fame and a second income. C4 revealed its presenter line-up this week, bulging with ‘youth radio’ up and comers nicked from Channel Z, The Rock, 95bFM and Niu FM.
The two main hosts will be familiar to most.
Jaquie Brown returns to the small screen after exiting her presenting role on Space last year, while Channel Z drive host Clark Gayford’s previous claim to TV fame was doing rather well on Treasure Island. He has also worked behind the scenes though, producing Pulp Sport on Sky and was ‘the brains’ behind Dunedin’s infamous Cow TV.
Channel Z breakfast host and TV3 Panel-ist James Coleman will front the Retro Show, bFM DJ Nick Dwyer (aka Nick D) hosts a the Dance Show, while bFM/Mai FM heavy-hitter Phil Bell (aka DJ Sir-Vere) presents the Hip Hop Show.
The Rock’s Jono Pryor, former Radio Awards Best New Broadcaster and currently breakfast slave/fill-in drive host, will be the face of the Rock Show while requests will be linked by Teuila Blakely, formerly of M2 and Niu FM. Camilla Martin (better known to bFM listeners as weather presenter Camilla Nimbus) completes the roster as the presenter for the Alternative Show.
The audition tape appeal for unknown talent appears to have been fruitless… other than the PR value of taking the piss out of applicants, of course.
Programme Director Andrew Szusterman says he is very happy with the mix. “Every one of them loves music and that is the number one priority above anything else.”
