The Sou’Westers Top of the South & Top of the Country

18 November 2013 - 0 Comments

The Sou’Westers have had a busy 2013 since they released their debut album Going West. The album has received good reviews spending 6 weeks in both the NZ Music Album Chart and the IMNZ independent chart. The single Going West has received extensive radio play in Australia and the video was added to J2 Music channel. Their  re-working of (You Took Me) Heart & Soul, a previous top ten hit co-written by Sou’Wester Liam Ryan and the Narcs was recently added to the Radio New Zealand playlist.

The Sou’Westers performed at the 2013 New Zealand Country Music Awards in Gore where their single Going West picked up a nomination for the 2013 MLT Song Writing Awards.

The Sou’Westers’ last appearance in Nelson was at the Nelson School of Music Winter Festival Gala Opening and they look forward to returning to perform The Boathouse on Friday 6th of December and The Mussel Inn on Saturday 7th of December. They will perform the December dates with newly wrangled rhythm section Simon Terrill (drums) and Fraser Campbell (bass).

Nominated for 2013 Group of the Year, The Sou’Westers performed at the National Country Music Awards in Hamilton, followed by an appearance on TV1’s Good Morning Show  then travelled to Australia to play the first New Zealand Showcase at The Gympie Music Muster, a 32 year old event boasting an audience of 50,000 + with 10 stages over 4 days. Headliners included The Mavericks, Jimmy Barnes and Mental as Anything.

“These summer dates are a great way for us to end an unbelievably exciting year’, says Cook. “And with the high interest in the band in New Zealand and Australia and a new single out over summer we are hoping for big things in 2014”.

The Sou’Westers are due to release their next single, in the New Year. The duet, Lovers Do features vocalists Aly Cook and  Dean Hetherington. The radio edit is now undergoing remixing and mastering by New Zealand global hit producer Alan Jansson, best known as the writer/producer of OMC’s album How Bizarre. Jansson is also underway with Sou’wester member Aly Cook’s 2nd solo album.

In the new year The Sou’Westers will perform in Northland at Summer Country Music Fest, promising to be one of the biggest country festivals in NZ http://www.eventfinder.co.nz/2014/summer-country-music-fest/bream-bay
