Music News - Kiwi Musicians Head to Samoa in Support of 'Ray of Hope' Concert

A number of prominent Kiwi musicians will travel to Samoa for charity concert Ray of Hope which aims to raise money for the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG).
Aaradhna, Mz J, Pieter T, Sammy Johnson, Savage and Vince Harder will join international acts Fiji, Drew Deezy and Monsta for special performances at Funway Park, Matautu, Apia, on 29 August, 2014.
The Ray of Hope Concert is a tribute to the late Raymond Fruean, a prominent figure in the Samoan music and entertainment industry; and a strong advocate for Pacific Island artists and music.
In memoriam of the late DJ and businessman and his contribution to his community, friends of Raymond Fruen have banded together to create the Ray of Hope concert, with proceeds from the show donated to a local cause to help bring a little light to those in need.
Two of those friends are Brotha D and Andy Murnane from NZ label Dawn Raid Entertainment, who have come on board as event managers for the project. The pair developed a close relationship with Raymond over the years through bringing their acts to Samoa.
“Ray has been a big part of Dawn Raid returning every year to Samoa since 2005. We want to raise as much money for this great cause in memory of a good friend,” said Brotha D.
Proceeds from the August event will be donated to the Samoa Victim Support Group, a Non-Profit Organization that provides care and shelter for women and girls that have been subjected to violence of any form.
Funds will be directed to assist the group with the development of a much-needed maternity shelter for victims of sexual violence and to contribute towards its running and up-keep; providing basic necessities for the girls including food, water, electricity and baby supplies.
Chief Executive Officer of Digicel, Pepe Fia’ailetoa Christian Fruean, is proud to be supporting such a worthy cause and excided to be working with an outstanding cast of Pacific artists and Dawn Raid Entertainment.
“Digicel is committed to staging a memorable event for all, that’s certain to leave a lasting impression and raise the awareness of SVSG pushing forward its fight against violence,” he said.
Fittingly, the Ray of Hope concert, has also been confirmed as official curtain raiser for the annual Teuila Festival and kicks off the third UN Small Island Developing States Conference, hosted by Samoa the same week.
