Cairo Knife Fight is comprised of Nick Gaffaney (a man who has drummed for many of New Zealand’s leading songwriters); and a revolving cast of some of the most accomplished guitarists and songwriters around.
These include current band mate and collaborator, Joel Haines, one of the country’s most prolific composers and live performers; longtime band partner Aaron Tokona; and special writing collaborations with American music legend Mark Lanegan, local icon Laugton Kora and Los Angeles writers/producers Tyler Fournames and John Anderson.
The band, who formed in 2009, make their return to the airwaves next week, with their new single Rezlord, which is being released through a new license deal with Warner Music New Zealand.
Warner Music New Zealand General Manager, Phil Howling, says “WMNZ are very excited to announce the new release and partnership with Cairo Knife Fight. Working with such talents as Nick and Joel is a true blessing. Rezlord is but a taste of what is to come from one of the most energising Rock records I have heard in a long time.”
Rezlord, is a complicated song concerning a man who believes that getting all he wants is all he needs. Learning too late that taking so much from another often leads to a greater loss from within oneself.
The single will be serviced to New Zealand radio and will be available to pre-order on iTunes from Monday, July 28, officially going on sale from Friday, August 1. Listen to it here https://soundcloud.com/cairo-knife-fight/rezlord-single-edit.
Cairo Knife Fight try to redefine what two musicians can create live with Nick combining the responsibilities of playing drums, keyboard, bass, creating live loops and lead vocals with Joel's seemingly limitless guitar soundscapes and incendiary riffs.
Since forming, the band has supported Shihad, Queens Of The Stone Age, Gomez, Them Crooked Vultures and Foo Fighters through their New Zealand tours.
