Acclaimed R’n’B artist Aloe Blacc is returning to New Zealand for two shows this October. ZM and SEATL are excited to bring Aloe’s infectious brand of Southern Californian soul to our shores for the second time, following a sold out tour in 2011.
The Auckland show on 21 October -- originally scheduled for the Auckland Town Hall -- is now to take place at the Powerstation, with support from esteemed local solo artist Estère. The Wellington show on Thursday 23 October is at the St James Cabaret, again with Estère in support.Touring his latest album Lift Your Spirit, Gold-selling star Aloe Blacc continues to top pop charts with each burst of feel good soul. Bringing the gospel of good spirit to New Zealand audiences, Aloe Blacc’s new record comes to life on stage; his adventurous musicality and ease of melody serenading audiences: with sweet soul number ‘The Man’, international dance sensation ‘Wake Me Up’, and the bubbling R’n’B of ‘I Need a Dollar’. Renowned for his smooth and silk live performances, these tickets will disappear fast; so grab those dollars and get ready to dance. Having recorded with the top producers of the minute - Pharrell Williams, DJ Khalil (Eminem, Drake, Kendrick Lamar), Rock Mafia (No Doubt, Miley Cyrus) - for Aloe Blacc, the only limit is the sky.
Aloe Blacc is joined for both the Auckland and Wellington shows by local producer/multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire, Estère. Producing and performing with an MPC affectionately dubbed ‘Lola’, Estère plays and records a mix of bass, synth, drums, guitar, keyboard, kazoo, and anything else that takes her fancy -- singing all the while. Pulsating rhythms and moody melodies explore the influence of the Electric Blue Witch Hop genre, a realm in which Estère is proving to be a promising player. Singles from her self-released debut album (‘Culture Clash’, ‘I Spy’) have received extensive radio play and international attention; a collaboration with New York/D.C. producer Oddisee (via Red Bull Prodigy) resulting in three awesome new soul-fusion tracks, notably the highly-regarded ‘Flash Light’. Estère has played a large variety of live performances in cities and festivals through-out New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and Europe. Over the last year Estère has also played support slots for Erykah Badu, Morcheeba, Baths, Ikonika and KT Tunstall.
These shows are a unique chance to see a global pop sensation and one of our very own rising stars sharing a stage -- you’ll be dancing in the aisles.
