Auckland-based duo Angelo King (Third3ye) and Jono Das release the second single, Indigenius featuring Melodownz (also of Third3ye) off their debut album The Lion & The Lotus.
The duo are set to release their debut collaborative, The Lion & The Lotus, on October 5th to celebrate the birthday of Angelo's father and musical inspiration. Indigenius was mixed, mastered and recorded by Beau Jefferies and produced by Eoin.
Angelo King has defined the lyrical meaning within Indigenius as a reference to the original genius of our indigenous roots. While once connected to earth and spirit, the domestication of the human being has pulled us further away from our soulful origins and towards a more disconnected existence.
This track is an ode to the disparate relationship between the intelligence of nature and its creation of perfection and our discontent with what is.
The collaborative project has been described as psychedelic jazz rap; Angelo King weaves a web of intricately serpentine lyricism, fusing expansive subject matter that considers spiritually-conscious determinism with acute reflections of socialised constructions. Jono Das’ beat-driven soundscapes smoothly propel tastefully crafted jazz-influenced drum samples with crisp, euphonious production.
