Angelo King & Jono Das release artwork for debut EP 'The Lion & The Lotus'

29 September 2014 - 0 Comments

Auckland-based duo Angelo King (Third3ye) and Jono Das release the artwork for their debut EP The Lion & The Lotus; set for release on October 5th to celebrate the birthday of Angelo's father and musical inspiration. The Lion & The Lotus is a collaborative project that merges the talent and creativity of these two unique artists. It is a fusion of Music, Poetry and Art.

Producer and graphic designer Jono Das describes the importance of this fusion and the role the artwork has in this project.

"When I was 7 years old I asked for The Offspring's Americana for Christmas. Not because I liked, or even knew any of their music, but because I liked the album artwork. It had a blonde kid on a swing with a lobster thing; what more could you want? For me, the accompanying artwork is as important as the music itself. It's literally what people see when they hear your sounds. So it's important, man.

Elsa Valentine is an incredible artist, and we're stoked that she was kind enough to spend her valuable time interpreting my vague instructions, and putting pencil to paper, to help create what I saw in my cloudy head as the visual answer to our music."

The Lion & The Lotus
is a project that bears witness to the creative exploration the collaboration between Angelo King and Jono Das has inspired. The project not only hosts a collaboration between the duo but also with their contemporaries within the local hip-hop scene such as beat maker Christop El' Truento, Third3ye member MeloDownz, Yayne, eo, and Danny Watts.

The release of this EP comes of the back of the release of three singles, Take Flight, UniVerse (Prod. Christop El' Truento), and the latest release Indigenius feat MeloDownz (Third3ye).

The collaborative project has been described as psychedelic jazz rap; Angelo King weaves a web of intricately serpentine lyricism, fusing expansive subject matter that considers spiritually-conscious determinism with acute reflections of socialised constructions. Jono Das’ beat-driven soundscapes smoothly propel tastefully crafted jazz-influenced drum samples with crisp, euphonious production.
