Local acid folk musician Arthur Ahbez will soon be hitting the Desert Road to perform his unique fusion of psychedelic folk to crowds around the country, Celebrating the release of his debut album Gold on vinyl LP (via Border Music).
Inspired by the ethos of Jazz, Folk and 1960s psychedelia, Arthur has found freedom in expressions which reflect his understanding for honest, versatile music. Arthur will hit the road with his four-piece band Superbird, inviting audiences around New Zealand into the colourful world of his songs. You’ll spot him by his roman sandals and cactus-print shirt, wandering the outskirts of town.
A two year long writing and recording process with an 8-track tape deck resulted in his acid folk debut album, Gold. It ranges from sombre folk acoustic tracks to hip swinging jams such as Wine Store Woman - for which a hypnotic new video is now revealed in anticipation of the tour. With a nod to 1960s cinema, a mysterious lone female figure cast in red filtered light dances seductively to Arthur’s plaintive yelp and grooving rhythm. Filmed on a shoestring budget by Jason Block at Flying Fish Studios in Ponsonby, it’s an elegantly gyrating match for Ahbez’s foot-stomping track that is sure to be a crowd-pleaser at the live shows.
Be sure to catch Arthur Ahbez in the moment celebrating the release of his album Gold on vinyl LP thanks to Border Music. Before you get lost in the music, feast your eyes on the new video for Wine Store Woman here:
