RE-ISSUE CLUB - Episode 1: 90's Nun #003
Flying Nun Records are pleased to announce the third album in the 90s Nun Re-Issue Series - Bressa Creeting Cake’s self titled debut LP.
The band, originally named Breast Secreting Cake, formed in Auckland in the early 1990s, with their first recordings made on a four track finding an initial audience at Auckland’s student radio station 95bfm. With a handful of live shows, which often included playing in monk costumes, the band changed it’s name to Bressa Creeting Cake with each member - Ed McWilliams, Geoff Maddock + Joel Wilson - taking on a part of that name as their own stage name.
Having released their first EP Papa People in 1996, the band went on to record and release their self-titled debut album in 1997. Packed with avant-pop, right from the opening calypso swing of Palm Singing, Bressa Creeting Cake displays a playful inventiveness that goes throughout the album. With plenty of psychedelic tinges and a touch of progressive rock, the band don’t get stuck in any one place for long, from the frivolous fun of Rocky Mountain to the beautiful Chip That Sells Millions, the term ‘pure pop genius’ jumps to mind.
Pre-Order/Crowd-Fund the new Bressa Creeting Cake HERE
Never released on vinyl before, Bressa Creeting Cake is part of our new Re-Issue Club (or Ric as we sometimes call it) with pre-orders now available for an extended double LP edition featuring tracks from the Papa People EP as well as unreleased material.
The first episode of the club features FOUR crowd funded Flying Nun vinyl re-issue projects. We are announcing one record each day this week, until Friday October 10, when they all go on sale. As well as pre-ordering them individually, they are also available as a special discounted bundle.
Unlike most of the recent Flying Nun reissues - all four of these albums were originally released during the 1990s.
The albums will all be double LPs with plenty of B-sides, out-takes and previously unreleased bonus material. Once we have 100 pre-orders of each album, Flying Nun will put them into production.
