A Kapiti-made musical lament about lost friendships has taken one of the top prizes at this weekend’s Australian Independent Music Video Awards.

Brandnew Life, took out the “Best International Video – Pacific” award at the ceremony held in Canberra last night.
The video was filmed in Paekakariki by the One Shot Wonder video collective and features Indy and Nicky Giles. The video was shot on location in the streets of Paekakariki, including Beach Road, and at the iconic Paekakariki Railway Station. The set design for indoor shots was by local Jaimee Viner, making the production an all-Paekakariki affair.
“We are absolutely stoked,” says Stefan. “We put a lot of love into our work so it feels great when people say ‘well done, this is good’. When this happens by an international jury at a globally recognised music event, that’s quite a big deal for us.”
This year’s awards were highly contested, organisers say. “2015 has been the most competitive field of nominations ever and very hard on the judges who give their time in support of this wonderful niche of the music and film industries.” Entries came from all over the world, including the USA, Brazil, Canada, Germany, France, Korea and Egypt.

Now into our second decade, the Awards are one of the few truly independent music video awards that is not owned/controlled by media or corporate entities and of growing world recognition. The first awards were presented in Melbourne during 2006 and have grown in stature ever since.
From the outset there was strong interest from international music video directors and independent artists. With a 2011 review of both structure and timing the AIMA decided to increase the range of awards to both Australian and International interests to the extent that by 2012 the awards became recognised as the most comprehensive music video awards worldwide.
