To coincide with the first official day of summer, Kiwi singer-songwriter Jamie McDell has today announced the name of her second full-length album. Ask Me Anything will be released in February 2015 and is the official follow up to McDell’s certified-Gold selling debut album, Six Strings and a Sailboat.
Ask Me Anything is an eclectic and honest mix of songs, the album tells the stories of the new places, people, and situations she’s experienced. Ask Me Anything takes Jamie’s music to the next level, experimenting with different styles of production while remaining true to her acoustic guitar roots that are perfect for jamming to at the bach.
Hailing from Mangawhai and spending part of her childhood travelling the Mediterranean, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who understands summer better than Jamie McDell.
With a collection of NZ #1 singles to her name and an award for Best Pop Album at the 2013 New Zealand Music Awards, Jamie has been making waves on and off the beach, and her plans for this summer are sure to lead to her riding some even bigger ones.
The new single Crash from her forthcoming album was inspired by the story of a friend, and showcases a different side to her song writing. “The production is definitely more edgy than I was used to but it all began to work once the lyrics and melody for the chorus came out. That raw edginess is very much representative of what the song is about.” The track also showcases how Jamie is inspired by everything and anything around her, an influence at the heart of every song on her upcoming album, Ask Me Anything.
Jamie is sharing the love this summer, as the official New Zealand ambassador for Wishbones, a socially responsible footwear company that donate a pair of antibacterial jandals to a child in need with every purchase.
With some special pop up shows planned over the next few months, and a tour announcement coming soon, 2015 is shaping up to be Jamie’s best summer yet!
