Future looks bright for Christchurch as music festival expects thousands

15 December 2014 - 0 Comments

Christchurch will be host to a new music festival set to attract more than 3000 people early next year as the future for the garden city continues to look brighter.

It will have been five years since the fatal earthquake, which also claimed most of the city's infrastructure, but while the community continues to rebuild their lives, organisers of music festival Pounamu Vibes hope to remind the rest of the country that Christchurch is still one of New Zealand's main centres.

"Outdoor music festivals are becoming an important part of New Zealand’s summer culture,"says festival marketing manager Red Ngaia-Setu. "Christchurch is ready for this and the response has been huge, I think its because we always miss out on events like this"

Festival organiser Rob Coe-Tipene says,"We’ve been working on this festival for a while and have managed to secure a some of New Zealand’s top acts. Our lineup is soul & roots to fit with the influx of people attending Te Matatini. But we’re looking at establishing this as an annual event, and the lineup will grow and evolve in 2016 onwards.

Pounamu Vibes is set for Saturday the 7th of March and has the confirmed line up including Stan Walker, The Black Seeds, Sons of Zion, and Ria Hall, Pieter T, K.One, 1 Drop Nation and more.  For more information please visit https://www.facebook.com/pounamuvibes
