Christchurch rock band Hooster are officially a bunch of winners.
Three times have they won prestigious rock 'n' roll titles - the latest being the Jack Live comp to find the opening act for tomorrow's Big Day Out.
Hopefully, this one turns out more successfully than past wins via More FM and The Edge, both of which turned out to be somewhat "comic deflations.”
When they won studio time in a More FM demo competition, it turned out the recording time was at a fledgling Christian music studio and the boys were pressured to sanitise their sound.
Then they won a competition run by The Edge - the prize, to open SummerJam and warm the crowd for the likes of Killing Heidi, Tadpole and Garageland... turned out they played outside the venue to punters lining up for tickets.
On the bright side, if Hooster manage to beat the odds and become incredibly successful despite this cursed track record they’ll have some great material for a book. Hooster open the Big Day Out, playing from 10.30am.
