All the attention may be on the Big Day Out but there's another rather significant music fest in January, attracting equivalent numbers and featuring just as many local and international bands.
The Parachute Christian Music Festival takes place at Mystery Creek in Hamilton from January 23 to 27. This year there are 20 international acts and over 100 local bands on seven stages.
Parachute 04 Director Mark Mortlock is excited about the event.
“It’s mind-blowing how months of planning all comes together with hundreds of things happening at once and thousands of people in one place having the time of their lives. You have to see it to believe it.”
Local lass Brooke Fraser will be one of this year's big drawcards, he says.
Brooke has been a regular performer at Parachute in the past and Mortlock is delighted she’ll perform at Parachute 04.
“Brooke has been an extremely popular artist at Parachute and we know her fans will be thrilled to see her performing over the weekend.”
Since her performance at Parachute 03, her debut album What To Do With Daylight has gone double platinum. She will be joined by international acts including Newsboys and Relient K, and local artists including The Parachute Band and Detour 180.
Parachute is the largest Christian Music Festival in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2003 it attracted 23,000 people.
