UK Superstar Headlines Music Industry Seminar

04 February 2004 - 0 Comments

Recording star Jamelia leads a stellar list of top UK talent in New Zealand next month for Resonate 2004.

The R’n’B singing sensation – currently rocking the Kiwi charts with her hit Superstar – will be a special guest speaker at the three-day music seminar from March 11 to 13 at the Auckland Art Gallery – Toi o Tamaki Auditorium.

Presented by the British Council New Zealand, Auckland radio station Mai FM 88.6 and the New Zealand Music Industry Commission with the help of New Zealand On Air and Flying Fish, Resonate 2004 is designed to educate, enlighten and explore the similarities and differences between creative disciplines in the UK and New Zealand.

British Council New Zealand communications manager Kaye Glamuzina says some of the UK’s best creative talent will share their knowledge and expertise with peers, directing a programme of discussions, public discussions and debates.

They include:

- Jamelia who’s been nominated for two Brit Awards including British Female Solo Artist and British Single for Superstar. The 22-year-old enjoyed 13 weeks in the UK Top 40 with her recent smash hit which peaked at number three. Her second album, Thank You, also includes the single Bout (featuring Rah Digga) plus guest appearances from Bubba Sparxxx and Asher D.

- Beggars Group founder/chairman Martin Mills who is the sole owner of one of the biggest independent music groups in the UK with offices in New York, California and Hamburg. Martin has been actively involved in independent distribution in the UK, and in promoting the interests of the independent sector, and was instrumental in the setting up of the Association of Independent Music and IMPALA.

- Respected writer and producer Colin Emmanuel whose impressive discography includes many major artists such as Mary J Blige, D’Angelo, En Vogue, KRS1, Beverley Knight and Wyclef. He’s most recently been working with Jamelia on her latest album, the majority of which he has co-written and produced.

- Top entertainment lawyer Sarah Waddington who represents a wide range of clients in music and related media industries, and negotiates and advises on, among other things, recording and music publishing agreements, appearances, sponsorship and endorsement agreements, content production and delivery, service contracts, trade marks and copyright issues.

- Music video producer Pete Chambers who’s been producing music videos and commercials for 15 years. Pete’s had a busy time since his visit to New Zealand to last year’s Resonate – over the past months, he’s worked with a variety of artists including Starsailor, Suede, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Busted and the Stereophonics.

- Island Universal UK video commissioner Liz Kessler who again makes a return visit for Resonate. 2003 was a good year for Liz – as well as moving into directing, she had five nominations for specific work in the annual CAD awards and took out the prize for Best Video Commissioner on the night.
