Hailing from Dunedin, New Zealand, surf-rock/pop duo Two Cartoons formed with the initial mindset to harness and channel the feel of summer and their continued love for bands like Best Coast, Wavves and The Drums. Within their first 12 months their debut single Better Coast was featured on New Zealand's CMJ Music USA compilation album, supported by a headlining NZ tour and their debut EP Jelly Tip Lips, with their second EP Tiny Terrorsfollowing shortly after. Both were released to critical acclaim, earning four and five star ratings in NZ media. Focusing on simple, stone-age garage rock songwriting mixed with catchy vocals and youthful exuberance, Two Cartoons revelled in their live performances, taking their mix of high energy music and comedic interplay wherever they could, from stages to drunken house parties across the country.
Over the next few months, Two Cartoons were selected to play at NZ's biggest summer music festival Rhythm & Vines, alongside Tame Impala, The Presets, Kimbra, Mark Ronson and many more. They were also selected to play the NZ Going Global Music Summit, opened for Opossom, Ladyhawke, The Veils & Courtney Barnett, recorded live footage of a 'Roundhead Session' at Neil Finn's studio, as well as making an appearance on the hit NZ TV show, '7 Days'.
In 2014, Two Cartoons signed to boutique label Far South Records (Dagny / The Chills) and moved to London, where they've opened for the likes of The Chills, Ball Park Music, and reunited with Courtney Barnett.
The EP is out now, and includes title track and lead single, Lost Boys Club which perfectly harnesses the surf rock vibes of the likes of Wavves, whilst managing to firmly stamp their own authority on the genre, with Isaac and Bradley's playful, yet excellently executed song-writing shining through. Other tracks include the energetic summer anthem, Horizon Approaching, which has already proved to be a hit on Spotify with over 300,000 streams since its release a couple of months ago. Along with two new tracks Getting Green and Harry Actually, both of them being wonderfully rousing and enjoyable indie-rock anthems, set to catapult the duo into widespread notoriety.
