Hannah In The Wars is the new project of London based Kiwi, Hannah Curwood and the result of working alongside Roger O'Donnell of The Cure and a handpicked group of musicians.
Sweet Release opens
with dark voluptuous strings, subtle rhythmic guitar and staccato piano as
Curwood's crystalline emotive vocals pierce the sensual
soundscape, the song building to it's crescendo.
"Sweet Release is a bittersweet little love song I suppose." says
Curwood. "It deals with the pain of leaving something you love
behind, letting go of a past version of yourself to allow and realise positive
growth and change. The character in the song hasn’t necessarily realised
yet that is what she must do and so her conflict comes across… but that is definitely
where she is headed."
Like Sweet Release, Hannah In The Wars'
self-titled debut album (out April 17th) showcases a collection of lyrically
robust emotional narratives. Curwood’s distinctive and powerful vocals are
accompanied by Telecaster, piano, synth, delicate string arrangements and the
brooding pulse of orchestral percussion.
Hannah will be touring New Zealand in April with Luckless and Will Wood.
