Villainy announces their second full length offering, Dead Sight for release on September 18. The album features the exciting new single Safe Passage and this album sees the Auckland 4-piece venturing into a much darker, heavier and hypnotic tone than their debut release.
Villainy spent 2014 writing and recording Dead Sight with Shihad’s Tom Larkin. It was the band’s second trip across the Tasman to work in his Melbourne studio.
“We hate repeating things and have no desire to be in a band that rehashes itself. I think we’ve safely managed to transcend any risk of that” says Fraser.
Lyrically, much of the record tackles themes of hyper-consumerism and alienation, drawn largely from the jarring experiences of being in a touring band - regularly leaving home for extended periods, changing and growing from your experiences, then returning and being forced to fit back into society.
Dead Sight captures a well-developed live energy and chemistry and pushes the rock music envelope in all the right ways - it’s cathartic, honest and really f$&king loud.
From the brutal, thundering aural assault of Syria to the pounding rock of opener Give Up The Ghost and lead single Safe Passage, it’s clear from the outset that this is a band with a new, more defined identity.
“It’s
Villainy 2.0.” says Fraser, “It feels live and raw without being
underbaked. It hits in all the right places and hurts exactly where you want it
to.”
Villainy will be touring with Devilskin taking on 12 dates across
two months.
