Music News - Lizzie Marvelly Launches New Collaboration With P-Money

Lizzie Marvelly continues her journey of musical experimentation, with the launch of her new single Made For You. Produced and co-written by the legendary P-Money, Made For You marks Marvelly’s first hip hop-inspired song.
The throwback urban track combines Lizzie’s soaring lead vocal with layers of harmonies andP-Money’s signature beats.
Little did Marvelly know that the chance meeting with P-Money last year at Kimbra’s album launch party in Auckland would turn into a successful musical collaboration.
It was Marvelly’s love for R&B that inspired P-MONEY to explore a more soulful direction for Lizzie’s music.
“From our first meeting I discovered Lizzie’s love for R&B music hadn't been reflected in her recordings to date. So I set about creating a mid-tempo Hip-Hop and R&B track to suit her.”
P-Money was impressed with how well Marvelly took to the new musical direction.
"Lizzie loved the track and wrote to it right away. Recording with her was super easy. She really knows her voice and takes guidance really well. The end result is a smooth and soulful new direction for Lizzie."
Marvelly, who counts R&B legend Mariah Carey as one of her earliest influences, says she found writing Made For You “like a homecoming of sorts.”
“I’ve been obsessed with Mariah since I was about 11 years old. Finally having the chance to write music that reflects that side of my musical heritage has been liberating. I’m incredibly grateful for Pete’s [P-Money’s] guidance and support. It’s a huge honour to work with such a legend, and he’s encouraged me to simply write what I want to write, what’s inside me.”
P-Money was working on the soundtrack to the New Zealand film Born To Dance at the same time as recording new music with Marvelly.
"We were looking for a laid back R&B groove to precede a romantic scene in the film.Made For You was the perfect complement to that scene both lyrically and musically. It just matched the mood perfectly so we had to have it.”
