New Zealand Music Month 2004 is all about the green – the official pms shade as voted by the music month committee and www.nzmusicmonth.co.nz, the website which services May activities - is ‘Pantone 355’.
New Zealand Music Month committee chair David Innes said at the risk of sounding repetitive, all indicators point to an even bigger and better music month than last year, which was the most successful yet. Local content on NZ radio reached a record 22.76% in the final week of May, eclipsing previous records and going on to have a positive flow on effect for the rest of 2003.
“Already we have received confirmation from radio, TV, musicians and all the traditional players of their involvement for the month,” says Innes.
“This is perhaps less surprising because of the incredible positivity of NZ music industry going into 2004.”
And non-traditional supporters are jumping on board this year too, with plans in place for an official NZ Music Month launch with AJ Hackett Bungy at the AJ Hackett Bungy Auckland Base, Westhaven, Auckland.
The traditional RBA showcase for prominent radio industry people featuring up and coming talent and bands on the brink of radio success is scheduled for May 1 at the Carlton Hotel. Plans are underway for a big gig on May 2, to complete the launch weekend.
The catalogue of events for the month is building fast, with the committee working with the many strands of the industry that come together for the month to celebrate and enjoy NZ music.
