Music News - Ash Grunwald returns to New Zealand

Ash Grunwald returns to New Zealand

28 October 2015 - 0 Comments

Ash Grunwald is one of the most prolific bluesmen in Australian music history. He’s been at the forefront of the scene for more than 12 years, with nominations for six ARIA awards and three APRA awards, winning two of the latter. At the heart of his remarkable career to date, are nine studio albums, including his just-released NOW (produced by Nick Didia).

Grunwald, is without question, an artist whose talents and achievements have gone from strength to strength, innovation to innovation, from country to country.

After returning from a massive tour of Canada including shows at the Winnipeg and Vancouver Folk Festivals alongside the likes of Wilcoand Jose Gonzalez;  Grunwald is currently touring Australia in support of NOW and is heading to New Zealand at the end of November.

NOW is released in New Zealand this Friday October 30 and features the single Second Guess. Watch the video for Second Guess here

Second Guess encompasses the essence of what made Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world originally fall in love with Grunwald and his music. With an overflow of groove from the opening riff, paired with tight percussion and a unique moog synth bass line, Second Guess hits you off guard with an attack of the aural senses. It’s all Grunwald, it’s all-new and it is Now!

Produced by Nick Didia (Pearl Jam/Springsteen/Rage Against the Machine) from studio 301 in Grunwald’s home town of Byron Bay, Now is set to stand as a sonic landmark in Grunwald’s career as a respected roots musician.

Grunwald delves into a more experimental and modern approach on NOW, drawing inspiration from collaborators Ian Peres (Wolfmother) on synth, Pete Wilkins (formerly Blue King Brown) and of course Nick Didia. Grunwald aimed to approach the album with a traditional power trio reminiscent of seminal acts such as Hendrix and Cream.

Don’t miss Australia’s finest bluesman live in New Zealand this November where he will feature songs from new album Now, alongside tracks from his extensive back catalogue.

Grunwald plays Auckland’s Backbeat Bar on November 27 before heading to Blenheim’s Brews, Blues and BBQ festival on November 28 for an afternoon headlining slot at one of the country’s favourite festivals.

He then heads to Wellington for his own gig that evening (November 28) at Meow.
