New Zealand Music Month gets launched today with several high profile New Zealand musicians taking a leap off Auckland’s Harbour Bridge.
Jordan Luck, Sara Jane Auva’a, and members of The Have, Blindspott, Eight and The Feelers will all take the 40 metre plunge with AJ Hackett Bungy, as part of celebrations to kick off the 4th annual NZ Music Month.
What was originally started as a week long event back in 2000 to gain higher profile for NZ Music and increase air play on radio, has now become a month long celebration of the depth, diversity and talent that is NZ music.
Throughout May a wide array of media outlets and music retail stores will be putting in massive efforts to celebrate NZ Music Month. Our music will be seen and heard on radio, TV, newspapers, magazines, music stores, venues, the Internet and on the streets. The green target logo will be seen everywhere!
“2003 was by all accounts the best NZ music month yet,” says David Innes, NZ Music Month Committee chair.
In the last week of May alone, local content on New Zealand radio reached a record 22.76% - eclipsing previous records.
“Because of the incredible positivity of the NZ Music Industry going into 2004, this year it’s going to be even bigger and better,” says David.
Tomorrow (1/5), five acts get a career boost by performing to a captive audience of radio programmers and music selectors from around the country at Auckland’s Carlton Hotel. They are Adeaze, Lucid 3, The Have, Amber Claire and Eight. Past performers at the annual Radio Broadcasters Association Showcase include Carly Binding, Scribe, Brooke Fraser, Elemeno P and the feelers, who all went on to be commercially successful after making their RBA debut.
