The
day has arrived! After 10 years, four studio albums, 56 songs about beards (and
way too many shows, beers and beard strokes to count) beloved Aussie beard-rock
band The Beards have declared an end to their hard-touring ways and have announced a Farewell
Tour.
“We feel like we've achieved what we set out to achieve through music.”
Explains frontman Johann
Beardraven. “A lot more people have beards now than when we
started out, and people now realise that beards are totally boss. We’ll now be
moving on to Phase Two of our pro-beard operation, but not before we go around
one last time and say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who's come out to see
us over the years, and especially to everyone who's grown a beard, or adopted a
pro-beard attitude.”
The Beards,
who famously only ever perform songs about one topic, will tour New Zealand and
Australia with two sets jam-packed with pro-beard anthems from their impressive
five album back-catalogue – including hits You Should Consider
Having Sex with a Bearded Man and If Your Dad Doesn't
Have a Beard You've Got Two Mums.
The sets will incorporate the stripped-back acoustic sound that saw them crack Triple J’s Hottest 100,
as well as the infectious pop-rock that won them a legion of fans worldwide.
The Beards last performed in New Zealand at the start of 2014 and will return to
Wellington and Auckland on their Farewell Tour, giving fans one last dose of
pro-beard activist rock before calling it a day.
“We'll still be actively propagating a pro-beard agenda – but don't
expect us to be out there playing shows,” says bassist Nathaniel Beard.
“Now that beards have been rightfully revived, it's time for us to take our
crusade to the next level. We can't be too specific about what this will
involve, but it may well include starting some kind of religious organisation,
an armed military unit, or moving into the realm of children's entertainment.
Whatever it is, you had better believe it's going to be very much about
beards.”
The Beards- who last year released a 'best of' retrospective album Ten Long Years, One Long Beard - are much-loved by audiences around the world for their refreshingly original
concept, highly-interactive live shows and trademark sense of humour.
Don't miss this hugely-entertaining band's last ever New Zealand
tour when they play Wellington’s
Bodega on April 15 and Auckland’s
King’s Arms on April 16.
