Warner Music New Zealand are excited to announce its latest signing, the hot upcoming local pop group Openside. The Auckland based four piece are quickly developing a rabid fan base and will be exposed to the masses when they play Auckland City Limits on March 19. The group will take to the stage at 11.30am and have the honour of being the youngest act on the bill.
Openside’s debut track Worth It crashed onto the airwaves in early 2015 with a barrage of high energy hooks and subversive lyrical smarts. The track quickly made these youngsters one of the most talked about new local acts of the year. They also played a rapturously received set in Auckland with Twenty One Pilots, a duo that is currently dominating worldwide with their smash hit Stressed Out.
In the time since Openside have been picking up attention online with their brilliant cover versions of Major Lazer’s Lean On and Taylor Swift’s Style.
Openside are set to release their new track Branches on March 11, which will be supported by a music video that will premiere on local website Coup de Main on March 10. Branches was written by the band, recorded and produced with Rich Bryan (Jupiter Project, Stan Walker), mixed in LA by Billy Bush (The Naked & Famous Young Blood) and mastered in New York by Joe LaPorta (Imagine Dragons, Foo Fighters).
“We're very excited to have Openside join the Warner Music family of artists,” says General Manager Phil Howling. “For such a young band they have impressed many with their infectious pop rock sensibilities. We are very much looking forward to being part of their sure to be successful music journey.”
Branches has smash hit written all over it and is guaranteed to see this four piece breaking out in a big way in 2016. The track will be followed later in the year by an EP.
Openside are: Possum Plows (Vocals), PJ Shepherd (Guitar), Harry Carter (Bass guitar), George Powell (Drums)
