In a series of
festival appearances and headline shows, Wellington-based, multi-talented
singer/songwriter/producer Estère is embarking on an exciting debut tour of
Africa.
The tour will see Estère representing New Zealand this May at Azgo Festival in
Mozambique, Zakifo Festival in South Africa, and MTN Bushfire in Swaziland. But
there’s far more to these performances than representing New Zealand; having
been named after her grandmother from Cameroon, Estère’s cultural identity is
deeply rooted in Africa.
This tour is Estère’s first opportunity to connect with aspects of her cultural
and familial history. It will also offer her an exciting chance to be immersed
in a variety of African cultures, where she will have the opportunity to
explore and grow her art and performance.
Estère’s unique performance style and lyricism has been heavily influenced by
both her kiwi and African heritage, and she her song Culture Clash is self-described
as being a narrative around how these two cultures have shaped her as a person;
“The song is about my existence as a child of two entirely different cultures…
and how the cultural viewpoints of both my parents have enabled me to be a
citizen of the world”.
Immediately following the Africa tour, Estère will be relocating to Europe for
three months over which time she will be making appearances at festivals and
touring the UK and Europe (dates to be announced).
