ØYAWA,
pronounced oi-ah-wah, are a three piece indie / alternative band from Waiheke Island, Auckland. In September 2015 Øyawa recorded their debut EP, Won't Even Try To Scale It with Daryl Tapsell at Blackdoor Studios in Auckland, to be released Friday June 24th, 2016.

Øyawa is the creative collaboration of Brett Garrity, Nikki Ngatai and Miles Gillett. Though new to the live scene as a unit, individually their musical accomplishments are impressive.
The core of drummer Miles Gillett's career has been in Southern California with various bands playing and touring with the likes of Pavement, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flaming Lips, Fugazi, Dinosaur Jr. to name a few. Miles has also recorded many albums and singles while in the States mainly with San Diego band Fluf.

Garrity, a
Wellington native has played and recorded with NZ bands such as Short, Marineville, and Return of the
Wahlbergs thru the 90's and 2000's.
Øyawa is Nikki Ngatai's first band effort. A gifted songwriter and
vocalist, Nikki has been playing for years as a solo and session
artist. Her love for this band is paramount.
The band have had great interest from NZ radio with their first single Heads On Fire being
played on alternative radio BNets across the country and
today release their first and self-funded music video:

In celebration of the release, Øyawa are playing two shows in Auckland to support the release.
