NZ Idol Ben Lummis has again made New Zealand chart history, topping both the Singles and Album charts simultaneously. His new album, 'One Road', debuted today at #1 on the albums chart. Ben's single 'They Can't Take That Away' has been at #1 on the singles chart for six weeks.
Ben is just the second local artist to achieve this feat since RIANZ (the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand) began keeping chart records in 1975.
Ben made chart history last month when 'They Can't Take That Away' debuted at #1 on the singles chart - the first local #1 debut in four and a half years, the first local single in living memory to ship triple platinum (30,000 units) in its first week and the highest ever new entry on the radio airplay charts (Radioscope) at #29.
He narrowly misses out on a never-achieved trifecta - #1 album, #1 single and #1 most played song on radio all in the same week. 'They Can't Take That Away' is currently the #2 Most Played song on NZ Radio, according to Radioscope.
Ben is currently travelling the country promoting 'One Road' (which has already achieved double-platinum status), where he has been drawing record crowds to instore signings. Wellingtonians can meet their Idol this Friday from 3.30pm at The Warehouse in Porirua.
Ben will be performing songs from 'One Road' as part of the Idolised '04 Tour, which begins on July 1st.
