After establishing herself
in Australia as an act ‘to watch’, urban soul singer Jay Power and her
award-winning band are bringing their mesmerising live show to New Zealand this
August.
The 2015 ‘South Australian Female Artist of the Year’ finalist will play at Meow in Wellington on August 10, with
support from local collective, Spitfire.
She’ll then head north for a show at The
Old Stone Butter Factory in Whangarei on August 12 with special
guest, the super-talented musician and actor Troy Kingi, before performing at the Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival on August 13 and 14.
Power’s
live shows combine urban beats with hints of funk and splashes of neo soul. She
has supported Australia's mother of soul Renee
Geyer numerous times and recently shared the stage with UK’s
hottest vocal group The
Sons of Pitches and New Zealand’s award-winning Hollie Smith.
Along with her power-packed live performances, her reputation as an ‘artist to
watch’ is well and truly justified - and the critics agree.
“Sexy and sleek. If you like
soul, wrapped in pop, driven by funk and laced with Hip-Hop, then this show is
for you.” - Beat Magazine
“Powerful, soul-infused pop
that delighted the audience. Intelligent songwriting skill.” - Drunk on Music
Helping Power bring her electrifying performances to life, is her world class band including Darren Matthiassen (Shapeshifter,
Hollie Smith) bass player Marika
Hodgson (Hollie Smith, Sorceress) and guitarist Mikey Chan (Roots
Manuva). Between them they have played at some of the biggest festivals in the
world including Glastonbury and WOMAD NZ.
