Calling all Bands! Roundup 2004 is almost here...

10 August 2004 - 0 Comments

The Annual RDU Roundup Band Competition is happening once again this year and entries are being accepted now. This year it's all happening in September with over $8000 worth of prizes that the winning bands will receive of prizes thanks to the many sponsors that have shown there support for the Christchurch music.

Prizes include $1000 worth of NZ Rockshop vouchers, recording time at Tandem Studios, 500 pressed CD's thanks to Media Technolgy, postering credit with Phantom Billstickers, advertising credit with RDU 98.5, guaranteed paid gigs at the Dux de Lux (including a spot at the coveted Dux de Lux new years eve gig) and of course, the priceless title of being the winner of Roundup 2004. Entry to the event is free.

Roundup is the perfect opportunity for any band to fast track their road to fame and fortune. Entries close on the 27th of August and entry forms can be picked up from RDU on campus, at the Dux de Lux in town, from the Christchurch Rockshop, or you can enter online at www.rdu.org.nz.

"This year we've made a few changes to Roundup that will hopefully make the competition fairer and allow more bands to enter and be heard. We've managed to avoid having an entry fee again this year, as most bands aren't exactly rolling in spare cash. Our prize pool is huge which is testament to local business's getting behind the event, and as if the prizes weren't enough to entice bands to enter, simply getting the chance to be seen and heard by our heats judges should be enough to make most bands jump at the opportunity to compete. Roundup is RDU's way of continuing to support live Christchurch music and it doesn't matter what style you play music you play, we want any band bar bluegrass to be a part of Roundup." Says RDU Promotions Manager Joshua "Spanky" Moore.

Roundup is very fortunate to have two of the most influential people in the New Zealand music industry to judge the heats and sort the musical wheat from the chaff. Ashley Page is the Artist and Repertoire Manager for FMR Records, the record label who is home to Pan Am, Betchadupa and The D4 to name but a few. Certainly someone to impress for bands who want a record deal! Stephan McCarthy runs his Southern Recordings label, founded the hugely popular www.bands.co.nz, is the front man for Pine and has previously worked for music video company Shuriken Productions.

Special thanks must go to The Dux de Lux for continuing to supporting the Christchurch music scene. Roundup supports the 'Get Into It Not Out Of It' promotion and endorses responsible drinking.

Heats will be held at the Dux de Lux during the day on the 4th and 5th of September and the event is open for viewing by the public for free.
