Wellington rock group TITAN release their debut single The Gift and accompanying music video this week.
Blending an esoteric combination of classic rock, post rock, goth new romantic and pop, TITAN’s first single takes listeners into an intensely personal landscape, a hazy noir dream world of shadowy images and reluctant honesty.
“As a group that draws from diverse influences, choosing a first single was exciting. Revealing just one facet of our sound, we’re excited to offer this first tune up – but can’t wait until people have the whole album in their hands to experience the entire picture!” says Ben Fulton, guitarist and singer for the group.
Shot by New Zealand film maker Jay Araia at the bands studio, Araia weaves dark imagery with cryptic symbolism to complement the songs esoteric message.
TITAN formed late last year and have spent most of 2016 locked away in an abandoned Victorian hotel, developing and refining their unique sound. “The space where we write and record is amazing – it was used as brothel from the turn of last century – so much history and life between the four walls…. completely inspiring” enthuses bass player Shane Hamill.
TITAN is a trio comprised of Ben Fulton (Guitar/ vocals), Sage Kamaru (Drums/ Vocals) and Shane Hamill (Bass/ Vocals). Each member has a diverse background, having collectively being a part of iconic New Zealand groups AhoriBuzz, Residue, The Bones and Jan Hellriegel. Fulton is known to many guitarists, both locally and internationally as the creator of iconic effects pedal company Red Witch Analog Ltd. His designs have been embraced by some of the worlds top players – The Edge, Andy Summers, Reeves Gabrels and Slash, to name a few. Needless to say, the tones flowing from TITAN are truly epic!
Music Journalist Simon Sweetman said "TITAN is huge, as you'd hope and expect from such a name. The riffs, the melodies, the textures - all remind you of classic rock from the 60s and 70s, Beatles, Led Zeppelin...all those wonderful things. It's about joy and losing yourself in an anthem. They deliver. I look forward to seeing where they'll take me next. It's already felt like a great trip".
The Gift drops on Thursday the 3rd of November.
