Epic performances from international heavyweights ZHU, Hot Chip (DJ Set) and Skream along with headline performances from local legends The Jordan Luck Band, Kings, P-Money and Savage marked the final night of the sold out Rhythm and Vines 2016.
Wrapping up the 14th year of the festival the 17,000 strong crowd were treated to a bluebird Gisborne afternoon with festival goers taking full advantage of the sprawling site to find the perfect spot of sunshine to enjoy the world class acts on offer. Those that have missed out on being here this year have been quick to experience the festival from online with the official Rhythm and Vines Snapchat account clocking over 2.5 million streams across the 4 days.
A true kiwi icon, Jordan Luck, complete with full band, took to the Vines stage to play a supercharged set filled with all his iconic hits against the final sunset of 2016. Hip Hop legend Savage then took the stage playing his iconic hits before handing over the reins to headline act, LA based producer ZHU.A timely recap of they year that's been transitioned into a mind-blowing fireworks display which marked the stroke of midnight with R&V favourite P-Money then taking the decks to really welcome in the New Year. Across in the Rhythm Supertop festival goers got down and dirty with an epic Hot Chip DJ Set followed by a set from UK favourite Skream continuing right into the small hours.
“It’s an honour to be able to bring this show to Gisborne year after year,” says festival founder Hamish Pinkham. “This year's festival has been one for the books and I can’t wait to crack into planning for the 15th year of the festival in 2017.”
With a strong push towards sustainability, Rhythm and Vines is thrilled to report the tonnage of waste leaving the festival site this year is down significantly despite the amount of festival goers staying on site doubling this year. Organisers have put this down to range of sustainable initiatives implemented this year.
