After years of touring in the US and Europe, NZ born Like A Storm are back and will play their first Auckland show in years as they support Alter Bridge at The Powerstation this Friday. The North Shore boys returned earlier this month to rock the roof off Homegrown, a show that introduced the band to locals after their many years abroad.
Like A Storm are currently balancing the recording of a new album, Catacombs, with their busy international touring schedule – which also includes an appearance at the UK’s iconic Download Festival, the band are headlining the same stage in which fellow Kiwi rockers Devilskin appear.
The shows come on the back of their formidable new single, Pure Evil, the first offering from the band’s upcoming new record, Catacombs.

Pure Evil was initially released to coincide with Like A Storm’s recent UK and European arena tour with Alter Bridge, Volbeat and Gojira. But word spread about the track and without ever being released as a single, it was picked up at US rock radio – breaking into the US Rock Top 40. As a result,Pure Evil has become the fifth single in a row for Like A Storm to break into the Top 40 at rock radio in the United States - the first time ever that a New Zealand artist has achieved such success.
The song marks the next evolution of Like A Storm’s sound-blending progressive heavy metal riffage, double-kick drumming and soaring solos with haunting textures and an anthemic chorus. Lyrically the song marks a turning point in the band’s writing, addressing the dark side of religious and political power. Says guitarist Matt Brooks, “The cover ups, scandals and exploitation that pervade the highest levels of church and government are just sickening. Pure Evil seemed like the perfect way to sum up this absolute hypocrisy – these people appear so righteous, but at their core they are the worst of the worst.”
