Shock Records is to move distribution of its music releases from BMG, with whom they have been associated for the last six years, to EMI at the end of this month.
A gradual changeover of Shock releases will begin on November 22 with a full shift of Shock catalogue to EMI as of November 29.
Although the Sony-BMG merger was not the cause of the move, Shock General Manager Daren Humphries does say the impending changes in the industry provided impetus to look at how best to secure Shock's position for the future.
"We have really enjoyed our time working with BMG," he says.
"They have helped us to establish Shock as a strong independent force in New Zealand and have been an integral part of our business, playing a key role in many of our successes here to date. We thank everyone at BMG for their support and wish them all the best for the future.
“EMI is the right choice and we look forward to an exciting future with them.”
Shock Records is an independently owned and operated record label, originating in a Melbourne terrace house 16 years ago. The New Zealand office is responsible for all marketing and promotion of Shock titles and is very proud of it successes to date which have included releases from international artists, The White Stripes, Gillian Welch, The Prodigy and Tom Waits, as well as Kiwi achievers The Datsuns, Katchafire, Sommerset and The Have.
Shock's four Auckland staff will also move into the EMI offices in Newton at the end of November.
