Endless is the upcoming new album from Wellington band
Illuminus. Out on 1 May 2018,
Endless is the follow up to debut album
Until the End.
Combining elements of alternative and progressive rock/metal with strings, keyboards and Aidan’s unique vocal style, the Illuminus' sound is bold and aggressive, bursting with ambience, texture and dynamics. Influenced by progressive rock bands such as Cog, Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect, Dead Letter Circus and Sydonia,
Endless is truly a step in a more progressive direction. The album is infused with alternate time signatures, offbeat rhythms and complex song structures and themes.
Key highlights of this new sonic direction are
Desert,
Timeless and the epic 8-minute
Endless. Big choruses on radio-friendly tracks like
Grow,
Brittle,
Enlightened and
Omega make
Endless an eclectic album that will win over both rock and metal fans.
Originally a 3-piece band with Aidan on vocals and guitar, Holden Schade on bass and Patrick Bowe on drums, Illuminus have been around since 2012. The band was started by Aidan after his last band in Australia, Azumuth, broke up on his return to New Zealand.
Illuminus is now joined by Aidan’s wife Milla on backing vocals and keyboards. A classically trained singer, Milla vocals serve to enhance the Illuminus sound and infuse tracks on
Endless with her signature grace.
Included with
Endless is bonus track
Taller than God, a cover of the 1996 hit song by the
Strawpeople.
Artwork for the album is created by Aidan, a digital artist and filmmaker, who also directs and edits all of the Illuminus music videos. Songs from the album are being released on the Illuminus Bandcamp page, with a new track released each week, each with its own unique piece of cover art.
