Kiwi singer-songwriter Tom Cunliffe's exquisitely crafted new album Template For Love is out today.
Produced by two of New Zealand’s most well-respected talents - Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson,Delaney Davidson, Aldous Harding, Nadia Reid) and Dave Khan (Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson), Template For Love reveals
the Auckland-based troubadour to be one of Kiwi music’s hidden gems.
The 11-track album was recorded in Edwards’
famed Lyttelton recording studio with Cunliffejoined by Khan’s Yarra Benders matesGus Agarsand Ben Woolleyand their friend Dan
Luscombe from Melbourne.
It includes the already released singles This Table Is A River and Burning Blood, which set the scene
for an album that beams with sharp lyricism and catchy hooks, reminiscent of
the classic ‘Kiwi sound’ and yet, planted firmly in today’s indie-rock and pop-folk realm.
The video for Burning
Blood premiered last week on Under The Radar.

Template For Love is Cunliffe’s
second record, and follows his 2016 debut - the folk-based Howl and Whisper, which
drew comparisons to the likes of The Waterboys and The Pogues.
“Cunliffe honed his songwriting craft ahead of recording this, and along with some incredible instrumental backing has produced great folk songs that sit upon interesting timbres and textures” - NZ Musician
Born in London, raised in Christchurch; Cunliffemoved to Wellington in his late teens to study design. It was there that he first started playing and writing songs. In 2011 he moved to Auckland and spent six years writing for advertising agencies by day; and writing his first album by night.
