Estere shares new single 'Nomads' and live performance video

16 April 2018 - 0 Comments

Today much-loved New Zealand artist, producer and beatmaker Estère debuts Nomads, the last single before the release of her forthcoming double album My Design, On Others’ Lives which is due out Friday 27th April.

This new track is Estère’s personal study of forced mass movement in both a story of pain, beauty and resurrection.

“Nomads is about exploring identity and where we come from,” says Estère. “Everyone is of a people that at some point migrated from another place. I think a lot of the time, group migration is extremely painful and is born of life-shattering circumstances. But it’s also amazing how human beings can transcend borders - through shared experiences. I think now more than ever, it’s important that we open our hearts and homes to people who have been forced to leave their motherlands.”

Nomads is out now on all digital streaming platforms. Find it onSpotify,iTunes/Apple MusicBandcamp, and YouTube.

Today Estère also reveals a special live video of Nomads which you can watch here. In May, she will take that same enigmatic live performance around the country as part of her two New Zealand release shows to support the release of My Design, On Others’ Lives

This will be your last chance to see Estère before she takes off for a tour of the UK and Europe, which includes a festival performance at AFROPUNK Paris (alongsideD’Angelo, SZA, Damian Marleyand more).

Remaining tickets to Estère’s My Design, On Others’ Livestour are available from Undertheradar here.

Estere - My Design, On Others' Lives shows:
Thursday 3rd May - Caroline, Wellington
Saturday 5th May - Cassette 9, Auckland

The long-awaited follow up to her self-titled debut is out in two weeks time, marking a creative turning point in the world of Wellington-based producer and performer, Estère Dalton, who wrote, recorded and arranged the project, working with engineers Simon Gooding, Lee Prebble and Benny Tones on mixing.

Put together in a suburban 40’s Wellington villa that she used to call ‘home’, Estère brings together a joyful flurry of eclectic sounds, sonic textures and musical instruments on My Design, On Others’ Livesto help her weave stories from the perspective of others’ lives and those of her own. Weighty drums, warm acoustic textures, succulent bass over powerful melodies - it is a unique euphoria that shows the inner workings of Estere’s thoughts and creative processes.

With her obsessive interest in collecting and recording samples, a plethora of original sonic sprinklings can be found on every song off the album. The backdrop to Vietnam is the hiss and sway of Bamboo trees Estère recorded in Tam Coc (Vietnam), whilst the sound of her Mum’s vintage telephone punches the chorus in Rent.

The 12-track two-part album features her much loved bangers including Pro Bono Techno Zone, Control FreakRent and her more personal, stripped down number Grandmother.

My Design, On Others’ Lives is available to pre-order on limited edition cassette from Prison Tapes, and via RPMon CD and electric blue vinyl here.
