NZ Music takes centre stage at THE EDGE®, Auckland's premier entertainment venue, this May.
The ongoing commitment to and support of NZ music by THE EDGE® is highlighted next month. May will kick off with a free show from NZ's hottest live act Shihad on Sunday, followed by performances from some of the country’s top artists throughout the month, and will culminate with the b.net Music Awards on May 27.
“We’re proud to get behind New Zealand Music Month,” said THE EDGE® Chief Executive Greg Innes, “because it puts local talent right where it ought to be – in the spotlight. THE EDGE® is a great supporter of the New Zealand performing arts and we’re very pleased to now extend this support to New Zealand’s multi-talented music scene."
THE EDGE® plays host to Shihad this Sunday, who perform a free one-off show in Aotea Square to mark the official launch of NZ Music Month 2005.
Presented by Vodafone, the all-ages performance by New Zealand's favourite live band gets underway at 4pm.
A line-up of NZ Musicians have also been confirmed to play at Aotea Square Market every Friday and Saturday throughout May, including Autozamm, songstress Sarah Brown, Rodney Fisher from goodshirt, and Joel and Sean from Augustino.
The NZ Music Month calendar at THE EDGE® culminates in the b.net music awards, which will be hosted, for the first time, by THE EDGE® at Auckland Town Hall.
“The b.net Music Awards will end the month on a high note. We’re very happy to have the party at our place, and to officially host this celebration of New Zealand music,” said Mr Innes.
“But our involvement in the music industry will not stop there. We are also working on a couple of other initiatives that will help develop and promote New Zealand music throughout the year, and I look forward to announcing these in coming weeks.”
