New Zealand musicians dominate the music charts this week with the number one single, album and DVD all recorded by Kiwis.
Renowned Wellington-based Dub/Reggae band Fat Freddy’s Drop, debuts at number one with ‘Based On A True Story’, the group’s first studio album.
Debuting at number two is Shihad with its new album ‘Love Is The New Hate’.
The number one DVD this week is Hayley Westenra’s ‘Live In Concert’. And to cap off a great performance Savage holds fort for his sixth week at the top of the singles chart with ‘Moonshine’.
RIANZ CEO Campbell Smith says it’s a great week for NZ Music.
“Plainly NZ Music Month is striking more than a cord and these new highs show Kiwis are really getting behind their musical heroes.
“It’s been a great couple of weeks with the official NZ Music chart turning 30 and now this new high.”
• Fat Freddy's Drop is the first number one Kiwi album for 2005.
• Hayley Westenra’s DVD is the first to reach number one since the DVD category was introduced to the charts last year.
• Savage is the only Kiwi to top the singles chart this year – his debut single ‘Swing’ spent five weeks at number one and 'Moonshine’ is now into its sixth week at number one.
• Over the past 30 years, 30 local albums have debuted at number one and Fat Freddy’s Drop brings the number to 31.
• Breaks Co-Op is number one on the airplay chart for the second week with ‘The Other Side’.
