Neil and Liam Finn have revealed two tracks that showcase the varied intricacies from their forthcoming collaborative album, Lightsleeper. Ghosts and Hold Her Close are available now, and as an instant gift when you pre-order Lightsleeper (out August 24 on Inertia Music / [PIAS]).
Lightsleeper bursts with melody, playfulness and shades of intimacy as you would expect from a Finn album. When Liam’s lo-fi atmospherics meet Neil’s iconic pop sensibility collide, the result is a feeling of intimacy and awe, as you will hear in both ‘Ghosts' and the closing track, Hold Her Close.
Ghosts lead by Liam’s electronic wizardry, is a spaced out disco strut, exploring child-like imagination and fears. There's a lesson here for how we can overcome our demons with the track then ending with "Neil, rip it for me now…”
Hold Her Close is an intimate, delicate lullaby and brings the two accomplished musicians together as fathers. This track was gifted from the Finns to New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern on the birth of her first child just 6 weeks ago.
Recorded in Neil’s Auckland studio, this unmistakable spirit - of musicians at their peak, bound together by the still hot desire to make music, brewed up with bones, love, quiet revelation and the perfectly evoked euphoria of being alive - is what makes Lightsleeper such a gorgeous progression in the Finn family musical legacy.
